The German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure elaborated a concept to double passenger capacity until 2030. The number of trains is going to increase and the majority of the long-distance train lines will be rearranged. On the official website (German only), extensive netgraphs can be downloaded. Unfortunately, these graphs do not allow to get a quick overview. This is why I have created a line map according to the netgraphs from June 2020.

I tried to design it as similar as possible to the network map according to the timetable 2021. A challenge was the big increase of the amount of lines which requires a more intelligent arrangement of the lines. Train lines with similar routes as of 2021 are coloured in the same way. At some sections of the network, two lines complete each other to a service on an hourly basis. These lines are put together on the common section.

In the new concept, the lines are differentiated in “FV” (faster long-distance services, corresponding the current ICE, IC and EC trains) and “FR” (slower long-distance services, corresponding IC and RE trains). Some of the “FR” trains serve many stops like some RE trains do. This is why not all stops could be labelled.

Remark: I have updated this map in August 2021.
